The USDA Approves Nebraska’s Hemp Program
The State Will Start Accepting License Applications on February 2nd
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved Nebraska’s State Hemp Plan. The plan, which was submitted by Nebraska in late December provides Nebraska’s regulatory program for the growing, testing, and processing of hemp in the state.
Nebraska’s plan provides for 270 cultivator licenses, 30 processor or handler licenses, and 15 broker licenses.
The plan also provides for up to a total of 400 Nebraska hemp cultivation sites. The fee for registering a cultivation site ranges from $400 to $600 per site. Processor and Handler registration fees are between $800 to $1200 per site.
Last year, under the provisions of the 2014 Farm Bill, hemp was grown at ten cultivation sites in the state.
It’s clear that Nebraska’s having submitted its state hemp plan to the USDA by the end of last year, and the agency’s approval of the plan, will enable farmers in the state to take advantage of this spring’s planting season.
